#Being different simply means you have something unique to offer the world.#
We are happy to present ourselves as a crazy and joyful team:
The article
There were lots of beautiful stories to choose from, but as far as we are concerned we have selected only the most special, having also in mind our theme: “Everybody is different” .
To begin with, we will present you an interesting tale of Esop, named “The lion and the mouse”. The author describes us a scene between a lion who is sleeping and a mouse that disturbes the lion’s sleep. At first, the lion wants to eat the mouse, but the mouse says that one day he will come back and help him which makes the lion laugh so hard that he drops the mouse. The mouse runs until he gets far away. After this, one day, the lion is captured by hunters and there is nobody around him to help. He roars! He weeps! But he cannot pull himself free. Right then, the mouse, he wanted to eat, comes to reascue him , regaining freedom for the lion. When they are saved, the lion turns to the mouse and says: “Dear friend, I was foolish to ridicule you for being small. You helped me by saving my life after all!”
This lesson of being different is found in myriad of others tales, like these ones in our culture: “Harap-Alb”; “The snow and the snowdrop”; “The dog and the pup”; “The enchanted pig”; “Giraffes can’t dance”; and last but not least “The old man’s daughter and the old woman’s daughter”. These books all celebrate and teach children to accept the differences between them and others. Some characters stand tall from the start and others have a wobbly road. But, in the end, they find their legs as they go, inspiring the children to embrace who they are and to learn to be themselves.
As Bill Gates said: ” Don’t compare yourself with anyone in this world…If you do so, you are insulting yourself.” Every person on the planet is special and no two people are the same. Even if you are an identical twin and no one can tell you and your twin apart, there will be things about how you think and feel that are different from your brother or sister. There are so many ways that we are all different and special and it’s not just about the way we look or the color of our skin. For example, some people like to talk a lot while others are really quiet; have different bodies – maybe they only have one hand or can’t see; have illness that make them different from their friends; have brains that work in different ways and can find learning at school hard or easy; speak a different language and /or come from other country, etc. There are many, many ways that we are different and thank goodness for that!
Wouldn’t it be boring if we were all the same? It would be like having your favourite dinner every night from now on. At first it might be fun, but after a while you would start to want something else. That’s why we will want to experience all sorts of interesting things from other places and cultures, such as food, music, stories, craft, clothes, festivals and different ways of doing things. Just think of something that you enjoy and comes from a different culture…
All in all, people were made to be imperfect and different because there is only one kind of you. Take it as a gift, possessed only by you. Everyone has one, but they are all different.
So why fit in when you were born to stand out ?
The story we propose is:
"The legend of the snowdrop"
It says that as God created the world in six days, there was a lot to be done. A lot of decisions were to be made and a lot of characteristics to be given to each part of the world, each animal and every plant. When it was the turn of the rain, snow and wind, all colours had been given away. The snow felt very upset and refused to withdraw itself after winter, so the fields and woods stayed covered by a beautiful pack of transparent snow.
God felt sorry and told the snow to ask a plant for a colour. However the plants refused to cooperate because the snow wasn't one of them. The yellow catkins of the hazel didn’t want to part with its pale yellow, nor would the sea buckthorn give it the orange of its berries. And the guelder rose refused to give it's red color because the snow was different from them.
The snow became very angry. The wind, colourless as well, joined the snow and together they lashed the land with heavy snowstorms.
But then there was one tiny little flower who felt sorry for the snow even if she (the snow) was different from her and while the snow rested from its last snowstorm, the little flower approached it. It offered her bright white colour to the snow. The snow was touched by the offer of the tiny flower and thought the white colour was just splendid.
In return the snowdrop was the only flower allowed to blossom in the snow. The flower felt so happy that from that day on it called herself ‘snowdrop’.
The snowdrop shared its colour with the snow out of compassion. It wasn’t after fame. She gave out of pure love expecting nothing in return even if the snow were different from her. She might have been tiny but showed the greatest heart of all. And every year it is the only flower to be admired while snow is still in the air, bringing the promise of spring to the world.
Let us be like this little snowdrop, generous, loving and kind to others, always, even if they are different from us because all of them have their strengths and weaknesses...
