Pim (15),
Hello I’m Pim and I’m 15 years old. I’ve got a mom and a dad and one little sister, she is two years younger than me. As for pets, I’ve got multiple goldfish and I don’t know which one is who so they don’t have names. My school is located in Gorinchem and it’s called Lyceum Oudehoven. Every day I have to cycle to school for ten kilometres and after school I cycle back. My favourite subjects are PE and NLT. I like to move and to sport that is why I play tennis in my spare time and I also do scuba diving. Even though I like a lot of things, I don’t really have ambitions for the future. |
Roos (15),
Hi, I’m Roos and I’m fifteen years old. I now am in the fourth year of TTO VWO on the Lyceum Oudehoven in Gorinchem. To school I have to cycle five kilometres and every morning and afternoon I cycle together with my friends to school. I live in a small village with a lot of farms and pastures surrounding my house. I live together with my parents, two little sisters and my big sister at home. Also we do have a lot of pets and a big garden for them. We have two horses, two pigs (we will not eat theim they are for fun, they love cuddling), two dogs, two Guinea pigs and soon we get two little kittens. In my spare time I train a lot, I am a professional runner and I train around eight times a week. Sometimes a little less and sometimes more (especially in my holiday). I love running so much and from the moment I started running, I became better and better and I won competitions and that made everything even more fun than it already was! On school I like things like economics and maths, because on these questions there always is an answer. I also love spending time with my friends and have fun! |
Job (16)
Hey, my name is Job and I am 16 years old. I live in a village with my parents, brother, sister and her boyfriend. I have two other brothers, one of which is in collage and one of which live on his own with his girlfriend and daughter. We have one dog, 11 cats and 4 ponies, we live quite big! I go to Lyceum Oudehoven in Gorinchem, I go there by bus or by bike, it depends. I like the subjects maths and NLT, which is a subject about a variety of scientific things. And I mainly spends my time on playing videogames and listen to music when I can. |

Fables
Phase 2
Step one
1. What do these stories have in common?
2. How would you describe the characters?
3. What was the theme or moral of each story?
1. All 4 stories have two animal protagonists, one 'clever' one and one 'stupid' one.
2. In every story, there's a 'clever' animal, who wins in the end and a 'stupid' and egocentric animal, who ends up losing in the end, because of his ego.
Moral: Don't get overwhelmed by your ego as it might backfire on you.
Step two
Mutual kindness/helping each other
Legends/stories that fit to this topic:
1.Kabouters helpen dorsen (Gnome's help thresh)
Summarized:
A group of gnome's helped a farmer with the work that he couldn't get done himself.
2.Kreeft (lobster)
Summarized:
A person goes to the doctor after her vacation in France and says. Doctor you have to help me, a lobster bit in my toe. To which he answers, which one. She than says, how am I supposed to distinguish all of those lobsters.
3.De duivel verjagen (banishing the devil)
Summarized:
One day there was a man who met the devil and asked him a favor. The devil gave him what he wanted and that was a gun with bullets who always hit their target. For 7 years he would hit everything he wanted, but after that he would go to hell together with the devil. There was one way to escape this and that is to show the devil an animal he had never seen before. The wife of the man dressed herself with a lot of feathers and the devil believed that she was an animal he had never seen before. The man and his wife lived happily ever after!
4.De kleine Zeemeermin (the little mermaid)
Summarized:
Ariel (a mermaid) is helped by the man she is in love with, because she would like to walk instead of swim. The man she is in love with is called Erik and is a prince. An evil witch wants her daughters to marry the prince so she can become queen. Therefore she has to make sure Ariel will never have any contact with the prince again, so he can fall in love with the daughters of the witch. In the end Ariel finds him again and they live happily ever after!
Step three
Group article 2
The folktales we have found are mostly more general tales in our country. Except the story about the little mermaid, we never heard of the three other stories before. They are all four about helping each other and be there for each other. For example in the story the little mermaid, where Ariel (the mermaid) is helped by the man she is in love with, because she would like to walk instead of swim.
This is an example of a popular fairy tale in our country. It is a typical story for our culture, because in our country as children we read a lot of fairy tales! In contrary to this story, where gnomes help a farmer to get all the work on the farm done without they have to get paid. This story we all three never heard of therefore is just a general Dutch story.
All those stories are close related to our team Mutual kindness, because it is all about helping each other and bringing people together and this not against any payment (except love). They are all related to some imaginary world, because mermaids and gnomes doesn’t exist (but we hope that is not really shocking for you). These stories therefore fit in our culture and almost all children here love fairy tales and know them by heart.
Step five
Our own fable:
The wanderer who helped the little girl
One day a wanderer was sitting in front of a store, begging for some money to buy some food, when he startled out of his thoughts by the crying of a child. The little girl was alone and when the wanderer asked why she said her parents had died one year ago in a car accident. Now she lives with her aunt, but she couldn’t find the way back to her aunt’s house. She was hungry and out of energy..
With the little money the wanderer had collected that day, he bought her some food, so she wouldn’t be hungry anymore. He helped her finding the house of her aunt back and when they arrived there, the little girl’s aunt was so happy that the wanderer could live together with the girl’s family. They lived happily ever after!
