AESOP FABLES
The Bundle of sticks…
Mrs McKenzie has six sons, but they are always fighting amongst themselves, which makes it hard to get any work done. She shows them the error of their ways by asking each one in turn to snap a bundle of sticks in two.
It is too difficult for any of them to snap the whole bundle, but when she unties the bundle and gives them one stick each to snap, it is easy. The sons realise the value of working together, and by doing so, win the top prize in a building competition.
The Six sons(Peter,Paul,Pattrick,Philip,Franklin and Fred)- They are all muscular and strong but lack common sense. Their only problem was that they couldn’t stop arguing and worrying their mother, but they overcome this problem by coordinating better with each other and winning the top prize in building competition.
The bundle of sticks – This character makes the strong boys understand the importance of coordinating or working together and at the end helps to give the moral of the story!!

THE BELLY AND THE MEMBERS...
ONE fine day it occurred to the Members of the Body that they were doing all the work and the Belly was having all the food. So they held a meeting, and after a long discussion, decided to strike work till the Belly consented to take its proper share of the work. So for a day or two, the Hands refused to take the food, the Mouth refused to receive it, and the Teeth had no work to do. But after a day or two the Members began to find that they themselves were not in a very active condition: the Hands could hardly move, and the Mouth was all parched and dry, while the Legs were unable to support the rest. So thus they found that even the Belly in its dull quiet way was doing necessary work for the Body, and that all must work together or the Body will go to pieces.
The hand- He is a strong supporter of the mouth and he too plots against the belly..
The teeth- The teeth seems to be too tired for doing his works, so he too as well supports the plot and refuses to take the food…
The Belly- According to others this character is accused of not doing his daily work and having all their food. Actually, he does more work than anyone by providing nutrition to the whole body!!
The moral of the story is- "As in the body, so in the State, each member must work together for the common good.”

THE LION AND THE OXEN...
A Lion used to prowl about a field in which eight Oxen used to dwell.
Many a time he tried to attack them; but whenever he came near they turned their tails to one another, so that whichever way he approached them he was met by the horns of one of them.
At last, however, they fell a-quarrelling among themselves, and each went off to pasture alone in a separate corner of the field.
Then the Lion attacked them one by one and soon made an end of four.
The other four now grieved a lot for their lost brothers. The four now stayed united. The lion once again attacked the oxen but he was now surrounded by all four, they instantly killed him and avenged their brothers death.
Characters : The Lion- The lion is a greedy animal who wants all the eight oxen as his meal. His greediness leads him to his own deathbed.
The oxen- The oxen all united prove their strength against the king of the beasts, but a day comes where they fight with each other, putting their unity in danger. But at the end they reconcile, coordinate with each other and together put an end to the King of Jungle!!!
The moral of the story is that when we stand united there is no power in the world that can defeat us!
OUR OWN FABLE...
There once lived a wealthy farmer. The old farmer had three large farms where he used to cultivate various crops in order to earn a lot of money. He had two sons, but both of them were not interested in doing any work. The old farmer was worried about his sons' future all the time.
One day the farmer called his boys and told them that he had buried treasure in one of the farms but did not know the exact location of the treasure so he asked the boys to dig all the three farms. The boys even after being told that there is treasure buried in their own farm return to their usual ways. Soon their father passed away . The boys were now worried about their earnings, so they thought about what their father had told them. The next day they started digging the farm day with all their dedication. They dug all the three farms but did not find any treasure. Disappointed, they thought that they should sow their seeds as the monsoon was approaching and the field was already dug. During the harvest season their crops were the best in the town. They earned a lot of money Now, the boys thought that their working together with dedication was the real treasure described by their father..
The Sons- Their only filthy habit was to laze around and do nothing. They were taught a lesson by their father where they understood the importance of working together with dedication.
The moral of the story is that unity is the key to success.

B.Is It an important story in your culture, or its more in general? Explain?
The story or the fables here are more in general. The fables tells a lot about wisdom, common sense, unity, over-confidence but nothing about culture, therefore fables are basically described by us "MORE IN GENERAL".

Script of our fable..
Scene 1.
narrator:
This is the story of two brothers- Shaleen and Praveen. As is the usual case for most Indian names,Shaleen and Praveen also signify deep, psycographic meanings- the former means Graceful and the latter refers to one with tremendous capability.
Flush with the earnings of the past harvesting season, the brothers are busy counting their profits and making elaborate plans for the next sowing season...........
Indeed, this scene they present seems to justify their late father's meticulus efforts in naming them so that his dream for creating a capable and graceful family could be fulfilled.
However, the situation in the family was quite contrary to the current one just a year ago, when their father left for his heavenly abode, leaving nothing but the large farm to the two sons, who were totally lazy and irresponsible, despite the sincere efforts of their late father. Let us visit their home, just after the demise of their father.....
Scene 2:
Shaleen: What do we do to make ends meet Praveen? Father used to take care of our needs till now.
Praveen: Yes, I also have been thinking about it. Given his hardworking and honest nature, people would lend him money to tide over temporary exigencies. Here, we are fast depleting our rations and nobody is willing to help us out.
Shaleen: Yes, I'm also worried about our future. I wish we had taken father's advice seriously and developed some earning skills instead of wasting our time and his earnings.
Praveen: Hey! Remember what he had told us just a couple of weeks ago?
Shaleen: No. Please recount it for me.
Praveen: Remember when during dinner he had told us that he has buried a treasure in the farm and we would have to dig the farm and search for it, once he is gone. Why don't we do that now?
Shaleen : Wow! Yes I remember now . In any case the rainy season is atleast six weeks away. If we start digging from tomorrow, it will take us that much time and once we find the treasure, fun times will begin once again....
Scene 3:
Narrator :
One evening, five weeks later...
Both brothers looking very tired and downcast...
Shaleen: There goes our quest for the treasure... The entire farm is dug up without any sign of it....
Praveen: Yes! All the effort gone in vain. The rations are dwindling rapidly . I guess only two months worth of supply is remaining in the store. Our problems just seem to be increasing.
Shaleen: Look, we have already dug up the whole field. The weather forecast also predicts normal rainfall for this monsoon. Why don't we sow the seeds the way father used to,so that in case there is normal rainfall, atleast there will be sufficient grain to sell and store. Atleast we will be able to take care of ourselves for one more year.
Praveen : Good idea! We still have a week before the onset of monsoons and the field is already dug up.
Let us start early tomorrow morning so that the sowing is complete before the first drops of rain arrive.
Narrator :
And, when the monsoons were kind, the brothers were rewarded with a bumper harvest. So we revisit them as we did in the beginning where besides counting their profits, they are already planning for the next sowing.
Praveen : Thank God we dug up the field well in time to sow the seeds and reap the harvest.
Shaleen (with a prophetic smile) : Yes dear brother, now I see what father meant to do by mentioning about the treasure. He wanted us to realize that our field is the source of treasure forever. How I wish we had helped him out when he was alive.
Praveen : Yes brother you are right
Narrator : In his last days also, the father taught two important lessons. Firstly THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS IN LIFE. WE CREATE OUR OWN DESTINY BY THE DINT OF OUR EFFORTS AND SECONDLY, THE OUTCOME OF UNITED EFFORT IS FAR MORE SWEET AND REMUNERATIVE THAN THE INDIVIDUAL ONE...
Both brothers: God bless his soul!!
